Flint Hill Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company was founded in March 1954 and the official charter was issued in June of 1955. Our first firehouse was located in the Russell Brothers’ Garage. Emery Russell became the second Fire Chief, serving for thirty years. After organizing the company, a carnival was held at the Keyser and Wood Packing House.

Mrs. Robert Massie donated land on Fodderstack Road in 1954 on which the company hoped to build its first facility. Two additional tracts of land were purchased from R.H. Delaney in 1958 and 1961 and a final purchase was made from Ray Pennington and Phil Wines in 1982 to complete the current station lot and carnival grounds at 945 Fodderstack Road. The carnival grew into a well-known popular event and was held for many years.

The familiar firehouse soon rose on the southeast corner of the property. Roland Welch, E.J. Welch and Collis Dodson had a regular route to Winchester, Va. hauling logs. On the way back from Winchester, they would haul cinder blocks to the new building site.

Over the years, the firehouse building evolved into three apparatus bays, a large community hall available to the community, a full kitchen and a small office space. The front of the fire company was renovated in the mid 1980’s.

In January of 2023, the company was reorganized, and we now have over 40 members contributing countless hours of volunteer time. We are always looking for new talent and would welcome your participation!
